Our second Collegians Business Network event took place in the Methody Boardroom on Friday 23rd January, where we were delighted to welcome Ellvena Graham to share her insight and wisdom on the theme of 'Successful Teams'.
It was a fantastic afternoon of connection and conversation. Attendees enjoyed the opportunity to network over refreshments before joining a thought‑provoking session with Paul Marshall and Ellvena Graham. Paul interviewed Ellvena on the qualities and dynamics that shape high‑performing teams, followed by engaging table discussions and a concluding Q&A.
Key takeaways from the session included:
- Relationships are at the heart of successful teams. Building strong teams and networks is essential, as meaningful connections form the foundation of effective collaboration.
- Failure is part of growth. It’s okay for teams to fail—as long as they learn, adapt, and move forward together.
- Communication matters. Great teams cultivate a space where it’s safe to ask questions, express differing opinions, and embrace diversity. A shared focus or goal helps keep everyone aligned.
- Positivity can be your superpower. Team members should bring positivity and energy, not diminish it. Be a radiator, not a drain.
- Look after yourself as a leader. Self‑care will look different for everyone, but making space for family, friends, and wellbeing is essential for sustainable leadership.
- Don’t delay difficult conversations. Addressing challenges promptly brings clarity and benefits everyone involved.
It was a truly inspiring afternoon for the Methody community, as Former Pupils, Parents, and MCB staff came together to learn, connect, and encourage one another in developing and leading successful teams.
