The Methody London 90th Anniversary Dinner was a resounding success, bringing together approximately 40 Collegians and their guests for a landmark evening at the prestigious RAF Club on Piccadilly. The black-tie occasion marked nine decades of the London reunion tradition, a testament to the enduring bonds formed at Methodist College Belfast and the strength of the alumni community across the generations.
The evening was expertly organised by Trevor Campbell-Davis and Alison Wright-Reid, whose efforts ensured a seamless and memorable occasion. Trevor directed proceedings throughout the night and encouraged all present to continue supporting upcoming events and to actively invite fellow Collegians to engage with the alumni organisation.
The highlight of the evening was a conversation with two inspiring alumni from the Class of 2017: actors Paul Storrs and Matty Loane, facilitated by Stephen Lindsay, Assistant Principal Teacher at Methody. Both spoke candidly and with great warmth about how their time at the College shaped them, equipping them not only academically but with the character and resilience required to pursue careers in one of the most competitive industries in the world.
Paul Storrs, who served as Head Boy and captained the 2nd XV rugby team during his time at Methody, has gone on to appear in acclaimed productions including Blue Lights and Grantchester. Matty Loane, who captained the 1st XV rugby team, has appeared in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in the West End, having also appeared in Dalgliesh and a Divine Comedy music video.
Their conversation was both engaging and deeply inspiring. They spoke honestly about the resilience required to build a career on the stage and screen, and the determination and hard work needed to meet the many challenges along the way. Above all, they expressed genuine gratitude for the foundation laid at Methody and their stories encouraged every guest to keep following their own dreams and to face obstacles with the same tenacity MCB instilled in them.
The College’s award-winning Principal, Jenny Lendrum, delivered an address that left Collegians proud and reassured. She shared news of the latest successes and developments at 1 Malone Road, painting a vivid and optimistic picture of a school that continues to thrive and innovate. Her words instilled a well-founded confidence that Methodist College Belfast remains one of the finest schools in Northern Ireland, building on its proud heritage while looking boldly to the future.
Beyond the formal programme, the evening was a wonderful opportunity for Collegians from all generations to reconnect and make new friendships. The atmosphere was warm, celebratory and full of the kind of easy camaraderie that comes when people share a common bond. From the bar in the anteroom through to the dinner and conversation that continued long into the night, the 90th Annual Dinner proved once again why this event holds such a special place in the calendar of so many Methody alumni.
A sincere thank you to all who attended for making the 90th Annual Dinner such a memorable occasion.
