What a weekend was had by those Collegians who were able to gather in NYC! On Friday 17th January we had an amazing meal together at the Trattoria Dell ‘Arte on Seventh Avenue. Then on Monday 20th January we gathered again at Orla Begg’s apartment overlooking Central Park for some drinks before heading to Carnegie Hall to watch the Chapel Choir take part in the concert ‘One World – The Music of Sir Karl Jenkins’.
From the moment people started arriving in the Italian restaurant just up from Times Square on the Friday evening there was an energy and buzz that you could only associate with being in that part of the world. We shared amazing food, stories of our times at the College and the NYC Collegians shared how one makes it from 1 Malone Road to the Big Apple! The challenge was set to the group to see who had the best ‘Methody Story’ with the winner receiving Belfast’s best Ormo Bakery’s Soda Farls! Jon Michaud and Stephen Colvin won and left with a soda farl each!
On the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration most of the world’s attention was on Washington DC. Our attention was fully on making our way along the edge of Central Park to Orla’s apartment were those from Friday evening and some new Collegians joined together for some more craic and shared some more stories of our lives with that common Collegian bond bringing joy and encouragement to one another.
Sitting in Carnegie Hall later that Monday evening watching the members of the Chapel Choir have the most extraordinary experience capped off the most wonderful weekend. It highlighted the opportunities that Methody gives its pupils that they could only experience because of the hard work and excellence of those Collegians that have gone before them. Their performance was exceptional and this experience will live with them forever. It was just amazing to be a part of it…
“In New York, New York
I wanna wake up in that city, that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill, top of the list (you bet)
A number one, king of the hill
These little town blues, they have all melted away
And I'm gonna make a brand-new start of it, right there in old New York
You better believe it, folks
You always make it there, you make it anywhere
Come on, come through, New York, New York
New York”
Our NYC Collegians have made a brand-new start of it, they’re king of the hill and living the dream in the city that never sleeps!
